Serveo, a leading provider of efficient and sustainable services that deliver growth and development for its customers, is celebrating the first anniversary of its partnership with temperature-controlled container supplier, Tower Cold Chain. This collaboration has significantly improved the transportation of perishable goods via train, ensuring top-quality food delivery to passengers onboard via Tower’s AIB solution for return catering.

Serveo, recognised in the railway sector for its management of freight centres and passenger services, identified a critical market need for reliable onboard catering solutions to keep food fresh during transit. Previous solutions utilised by Serveo lacked the dependability needed for commercial use and required manual intervention at train stations during transit, due to the absence of onboard electricity.

By simplifying the temperature-controlled transportation of perishable food, beverages and ice, Tower’s Advanced Insulated Boxes (AIB4 & AIB7) can maintain fresh and frozen temperatures at 5°C and below 0°C for up to 24 hours, eliminating the need for dry ice, electricity, or human intervention during transit. This allows to serve sandwiches, salads, ice cream, frozen meals, ice cubes and drinks at refrigerated and sub-zero temperatures in food-grade or FDA ‘known safe’ units.

“This system provides a robust, reliable answer to the challenges faced when transporting perishable foods under controlled temperature conditions. The ‘set and forget’ nature of these passive containers means they offer hassle-free, risk-free, and low-maintenance solutions, making our operations sustainable, smoother and more reliable,” said Sebastian Carro, Delegate of Railway Transports at Serveo.

Thanks to this technology, Serveo can offer return catering options, effectively minimising the risk of food waste. This innovation allows to streamline operations by reducing reliance on down-route stations, leading to significant reductions in costs and energy consumption while meeting stringent food safety requirements – ultimately providing a more sustainable, cost-effective solution.

“At Tower, we are proud of our successful partnership with Serveo and the role we play in delivering onboard catering solutions to the transportation industry,” said Niall Balfour, Chief Executive Officer at Tower Cold Chain.

“Since the beginning of our relationship with Serveo, we have showcased the strength of our containers and services, supported by our team of experts. Their knowledge, understanding, and compliance help companies like Serveo elevate the quality of food transportation, meeting the stringent requirements of modern-day travel and logistics.”
