Network of Opportunity: Meeting the Demand for Pharmaceutical Cold Chain Availability
At Tower Cold Chain, we are driven by a mission to deliver scalable, reliable and robust temperature-controlled solutions for the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries. Being acquired by Cold Chain Technologies (CCT) in 2024 has expanded our global reach and enhanced our ability to meet the growing demands for pharmaceutical cold chain availability.
With our strengthened hub network, which now spans more than 50 regional hubs in over 25 countries and includes three Centres of Excellence, we are proud to offer unparalleled global coverage. This milestone reflects our commitment to providing high-performance, temperature-controlled solutions that combine global scalability with local expertise.
Strategic Growth
The integration of Tower Cold Chain and CCT is a game-changer. By merging our advanced reusable passive containers with CCT’s industry-leading single-use and reusable packaging options, we are creating a comprehensive portfolio of solutions to address diverse customer and industry needs.
This partnership has enabled us to significantly bolster our presence in key regions, including South America and parts of the Asia-Pacific (APAC). Recent additions to our network before the acquisition, such as new hubs in Toronto, Canada, and Hyderabad, India, further reinforce our commitment to regional proximity and product accessibility.
Through this expansion, we are not only enhancing our geographic coverage but also improving pharmaceutical cold chain availability. Customers worldwide can now rely on fast, efficient and seamless temperature-controlled logistics with greater proximity to our solutions.
Driving Efficiency
At the heart of our operations is a commitment to maintaining a lean and adaptable supply chain. For the pharmaceutical, clinical trials and life sciences industries, where time and temperature precision are critical, our ability to provide a flexible and reliable logistics network is invaluable.
A cornerstone of our efficiency lies in our conditioning process, which requires minimal space in our hubs. All hubs that dispatch containers within a defined temperature range are equipped with refrigerated shipping containers (reefers). These reefers are filled with trolleys that can hold 15 to 20 plates, allowing each reefer to condition enough plates for up to 22 half-pallet containers. This approach is not only energy and space-efficient but also makes our operations highly scalable. As a result, we can quickly respond to customer demand during peak times, ensuring consistent service when it matters most.
Strategically positioning our hubs closer to customer sites further reduces the distances that containers need to travel for servicing or redeployment. This approach not only improves turnaround times but also minimises idle periods, ensuring our products are always ready to meet the next demand.
In doing so, we empower customers to transport life-saving treatments quickly, efficiently, and with minimal risk of delay or product damage – no matter the shipment size, distance or destination.
Sustainable Hub Networks
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond offering reusable packaging as part of our broad portfolio. We continuously innovate to optimise the logistics of container returns, a key component in reducing waste and emissions.
One such innovation is our “Click and Collect” service, which simplifies the return process for customers. By scanning a QR code on the container, customers can easily initiate returns, streamlining logistics and reducing the environmental impact of unnecessary transportation.
Additionally, the proximity of our expanded hub network and our space-efficient conditioning system play critical roles in lowering our carbon footprint. By reducing the distances travelled for servicing and redeployment, and by minimising the energy required to condition containers, we are contributing to a more sustainable supply chain that directly benefits both our customers and the planet.
Enhanced Regional Support
One of the key benefits of our expanded hub network is the enhanced regional support it provides to customers. By maintaining hubs closer to key markets, we are able to offer shorter lead times, faster delivery, and even more responsive support.
Whether it’s providing immediate access to our reusable containers, efficiently conditioning plates for peak demand, or streamlining product returns, our hubs are strategically designed to improve every aspect of the customer experience. For industries that rely on time-sensitive deliveries, this level of operational agility is critical.
The integration with CCT not only enhances our global reach but also solidifies our position as a leader in the temperature-controlled logistics industry. By expanding our range of products and services and leveraging scalable solutions, we are excited to deliver greater pharmaceutical cold chain availability, proximity, and sustainability for our customers.
